BILL FOGARTY
Irreverence - The Faces of Orgasm
January 8 - 24, 2004
Art @ Large is proud to present an exhibition of Paintings by Bill Fogarty.
Fogartys works are built up of a series of acrylic and oil layers & glazes, both on canvas and paper. This layering is also true with his subject matter as well. His focus is on eroticism, portraiture and politically charged satire. There is an almost naive execution of the work, but upon closer examination we see a technical proficiency with masterful subtle details. He tells his story without overstating the subject, and gives us a visual clarity to human drama in tandem with his great sense of humor.
My paintings are irreverent, states Bill. Im not above exploiting peoples fear, perversions, maladies, religion or ethnicity. Some people may feel that my work is obscene or pornographic, but I would disagree with this assessment. I am wholeheartedly in opposition to political correctness and I pride myself on being an equal opportunity offender.
Bill Fogarty hails from just outside of St. Louis, and holds a BFA in Painting from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. This is his first solo exhibition in New York City.
