"In my youth I watched my mother hone her skills as a photographer, though she became one with a decidedly different aesthetic than my own. Still, her support was of great help in my personal endeavors (not to mention the darkroom next to my bedroom).
Rather than using modern digital tools to acquire the look that I strive for, I use new approaches to very old techniques. Aside from unconventional darkroom procedures and heavy negative retouching, I often utilize various lesser-used chemicals, standard art supplies and assaults of sharp implements. This "tough love" approach keeps them from being less than presentable. In the end, they respect me more for the way I treat them, though they will never admit it".
